I am a ceramic artist based near Chichester, West Sussex, in an area of outstanding natural beauty at the base of the South Downs.
Recent work has been inspired by the Sussex Downs, abstracting nature through the visual language of drawing. I then translate these qualities directly through to my work with clay. Treating the surface with mark making I explore the clay surface and form.
The works are wheel thrown vessels or hand formed, turned, slipped, burnished, glazed (raku) and smoke fired using straw, hay, sawdust, seaweed and other organic material. Multiple firing methods allow further interaction of control and unpredictability to fuel the creative process.
